Welcome! The luminescence dating laboratory of the Department of Physical Geography and Geoinformatics has been established in 2004. Since then our primary aim has been to provide an opportunity for Hungarian quaternary and archaeological research to utilise the benefits of this method. Nevertheless, we are also ready to co-operate in international researches too. Since the start of our operation we have laid a great emphasis on the comparison of luminescence data with ages gained from the same places but by other dating methods in order to validate our results and our previous efforts on calibrating the sample preparation procedures of the laboratory. So far we have mainly focused on aeolian coarse grain dating, and as a new element of our activities we started to calibrate the laboratory for fine grain loess dating as well. We primarily use the OSL signal of quartz, and thus the dating of various types of other samples is possible too. Please take a look at our website and feel free to ask and enquire about our activities and research in detail. Prof. Gábor Mezősi Head of Department
